Word Play
We were the inaugural artists-in-residence at Great Barrington’s Mason Library for 2023-2024, a residency that culminated in a 4-channel sound installation called “Word Play.” The project uses audiobooks from the library’s collection as source material for a generative compositional process in which fragments of text are lobbed around between the 4 speakers and processed by vocoders, pitch shifters and granular delays to create a floating, textual sound world where chance interactions between texts and poignant vocoder chords (generated from the sounds of the audiobooks) combine to create an entrancing sonic effect.
